Girardville priest protests pirate

Apparently a certain Girardville pastor led the flock to a statue of mannequin depicting a female pirate which he claimed was obscene, according to a posting on the Cardinal Brennan alumni message board ..

Subsequent follow up comments weighed in on the matter..

Father Edward Connelly owns his own website called Reasonably Well . .He is the chaplain and co-host of Road To Cana.

And now fiercely against scantily clad plastic pirates..

An update..

Haven't posted in some time..

The latest information, from the Pottsville REPUBLICAN in a letter to the editor from . .The letter writer writes,
"A number of clergy have privately expressed dismay at being forced into early retirement. A Polish parish arranged the importation of clergy from Poland, but it was reportedly denied by Bishop Cullen. A Slovenian parish planned similarly, but was informed that its effort would also be denied. The bishop also reportedly refused importing additional African clergy as suggested by the Vatican.

The synod’s own building guidelines recommends the choice of the best buildings for the newly combined parishes. In reality, the best buildings were rejected for the more inferior, for it is fiscally wise to place the best building on the real estate market and financially burden the parishioners to bring the inferior buildings to the standards of those closed."

Invited to the beach house? Maybe next year...

Did you get invited to Bishop Cullen's beach house this year? Nah? Maybe the invite got lost in the mail.

Cullen's beach house angers parishioners of the Allentown Diocese..

Ahh.. maybe we're just jealous!

Or maybe we're wondering why the Catholic Church espouses the high quality of Catholic education, but then turns their shoulder and closes down schools across the area!? Perhaps we can start sending students to Bishop Cullen's beach house! I would fear the tuition costs, however...

October.. Brennan week

But it's not this year. Brennan week was an emblematic part of October at Cardinal Brennan for years.. But this year, the field house is bare and without noise.. The school is without life. It's quite a sad thing--even for those that disliked Cardinal Brennan while they went to school there.. There are days when Brennan doesn't pop up.. but these warm early days of October, it surely does. . .

There will be no homecoming game this week.

Nuns on the run

Pottsville REPUBLICAN reporting that the order of nuns that staffed Good Sam in Pottsville are leaving, and not coming back.

More: A consistently shrinking amount of sisters, the Daughters of Charity, have now caused the re-order of the order. The nuns will leave in August--no specific date as of now has been released.

Among the nuns leaving, the only nun serving at Nativity BVM in Pottsville, also being reassigned.

Saturday goodbyes..

Today will be the last day for a number of churches in Schuylkill county to conduct mass.

The diocease, which announced the closure churches weeks back, gave some suggestions for homilies, songs, and celebrations for the pastors to include.

Tonight, the final farewells, most likely tearful in many instances, will occur.
